climate change news

In the last few years sections of the media have been pushing the theory of man made climate change for all it’s worth. News items that add weight to the theory are given prominent news coverage; news items that debunk the theory given scant coverage, or worse still, none at all. The bias of the media is there for all to see. The amount of support and publicity given to the Alarmists – the believers that mankind is responsible for global warming – is out of proportion to the number of people who actually support this theory.
The media has a lot to answer for
Reading the public comments section of the major media organizations’ web sites, the pro-global warming support is at about 1 in three persons, whilst those who are unconvinced by the Alarmists arguments number 2 out of three. That is the major view throughout the world. However in some countries, the situation is the reverse, with up to 2 out of 3 people supporting the man-made global warming theory, making it very easy for politicians to seek electoral advantage by promising all sorts of policies that would allegedly stop global warming.
It seems that every major problem that arises in the world is being caused by global warming, be it climatic conditions in the Caribbean, drought in Australia, or famine in Africa. The media jump on this and in their ignorance, accelerate the Yes case, without giving any in-depth comment.
Lets look at just a few examples
Of the 10 fiercest hurricanes to hit the US, all occurred before 1950. Of the 10 most dangerous tornadoes to affect America, none have occurred in the past 50 years. And yet the allies of the Alarmists, the international media, insists that changed climatic conditions are the causes of these natural phenomena. The public is being denied the truth. Why?
In Australia the Alarmists point to the current drought and suggest this is the worst drought in the country’s history. Not so. Australia’s worst drought took place from 1893 to 1904. The Alarmists also say the poor state of the country’s longest river system – the Murray – is the worst its ever been and is due to global warming. Again not so. In the mid 1850s the Murray was almost dry for large section of its length.
And finally, the Alarmists tell us that famine in Africa is being caused by man-made global warming causing growing problems, when the real cause is problems with the quality of political governance. This is in keeping with the UN’s policies of not being too critical of the despotic and murderous regimes of the third world countries.
The Alarmists would have us believe their case is proven and cut and dried. They tell us that because 5,000 scientists in the US have signed a petition confirming their support for the theory, then it must be correct.
What they won’t tell us is that 31,000 US scientists, including over 9,000 PhDs, say the theory is just plain wrong. And that there’s no proof whatsoever that global warming, if indeed it’s taking place, has been caused by mankind’s activities. But of course the media is not going to make too much of this – it’s not news. They have an interest in keeping the story going.
All of this poses the question – why are the Alarmists happy to support a theory that has no credence and why is the world-wide media agreeable to promote this position and give the Alarmists more publicity than they deserve?
Some say that the Alarmists are those who 30 years ago suggested that the West was responsible for all mans’ political problems: friction with the socialist/communist forces; the military build-up and the obscene amounts of money spent on weapons of war; US support for right-wing dictatorships in central and southern America; and lastly western support for Israel’s position in the Middle east.
Now it’s said that these people support the theory of man-made global warming because it lays the blame at the feet of the industrial west. A position the UN seems happy to support as it fails to recognize the role played by land deforestation, which occurs principally in the poorer, non-industrialized countries.
Others suggest that the biggest failings of the Alarmists is that they’re not prepared to look at the big picture.
They seem focused on data collected over the past 100 years but more especially the last 50 years. They are not prepared to ask questions or provide solutions concerning events that have happened in ages past.
In fact the biggest criticism that can be made is that they approach the topic in a wholly unscientific and poorly researched manner with a disregard for translating data in a professional way.
For the Alarmists to convince people that man-made global warming is under way, the evidence they produce has to be more credible.
This is an attempt to put some balance into the ongoing international controversy that is the theory of man-made climate change.
Like most people, the author takes a keen interest in the world-wide controversy of climate change and global warming, and the alleged effect this will have on life on earth. He also takes an interest in more mundane issues such as proactol fat binder pills and the increasing popularity of satellite television
