I recently downloaded and used one of the guides and this article is a collection of my thoughts on the advantages and drawbacks of the product.
Before you read this, know that it is definitely possible to build your own solar panels without purchasing a guide. I just simply prefer a guide because I don’t have that much experience with construction, so having a guide helped me. But, if you know your way around a construction yard, save your money and don’t bother with a guide!

The green diy energy solar guide looks pretty good on the surface, but does it really contain anything of substance? That is what I was wondering, I was half-expecting it give me a bunch of worthless junk and manuals that weren’t helpful.
A major drawback to the manuals is that they do not get as detailed as I would have liked to see.Â
The tutorial videos really make up for the manuals’ lack of extreme detail. They were professionally done; it is not the product of someone fumbling around in their backyard with the camcorder. The videos are split into 6 parts, covering all the steps of making a solar panel. The host simply makes his own in front of the camera and explains exactly what he is doing the entire time. The camera zooms in and out and gets good angles so you can see exactly what is going on.
The drawback to the videos is that they do not cover the mounting of the solar panel on the roof. I would have liked to see that covered. It is explained within the manuals, but not in the videos.
So, if you think a guide may be what you need, shop around a bit and find the right guide for you. Earth 4 Energy, Power 4 Home, Homemade Energy are all good choices to consider. I recommend looking for a guide with tutorial videos, and comes with nice bonuses.Â
