Solar Power from Photovoltaic panels?
I’m interested in installing solar photovoltaic panels on my property. However, from mid November to mid.February we do not get direct sunlight because our property is set under a hill. Are there panels which work purely on daylight or do you require sunlight to run these panels successfully?
Modern photovoltaic panels do NOT require direct sunlight to produce power. Obviously, they will produce more power when in direct sunlight, but they still produce power under cloud cover or indirect sunlight. Contrary to previous answers, you do not need to have a way to store the energy (I.E. batteries). Most conventional systems are tied to the utility provider’s grid, and feed power back to the utility if you’re not using it all.
A bi-modal system, which uses batteries to store power, is only required if you are interested in disconnecting from the grid or if you experience excessive power outages. Bi-modal systems are, however, much more costly than conventional grid-connected systems.
