I’m connecting my PV system to PG&E’s grid, and choosing rate schedule NEMS. What alternate rate sked is best?
I don’t remember the meaning of NEMS. I guess it is net metering, which I have. Time of use metering is an alternative, but whether it would serve you is questionable.
During high load months and during certain daylight hours, PG&E charges and pays more during those hours, Off hours are at net metering rates. I saw a system owned by a guy who lives alone, and has a long day, because of a long commute. In the summertime, he does not use the air conditioner. He cooks both breakfaxt and supper in off hours. He can make out like a bandit. If he had a stay-at-home wife, I don’t think time of use metering would serve him.
I have a 6 kW system that takes care of all my electrical needs. There is a surplus, so I use it for heating, with a couple of portable electric heaters,
