Do you know anything about using solar panels on an electric borehole pump?
There is an orphanage back home in Zimbabwe that is trying to set up a solar system for their previously electric 30-meter-deep borehole (electricity is now scarce there) … how do I even begin to know what I’m looking for? What questions do I need to ask about the borehole there? What should I look for on the solar panels? Besides solar panels, what else do I need to set this up? Shipping is no problem, there is a huge crate being sent over there soon that can take them. I’d really appreciate the help!
There are solar panels and solar pumps in the yahoo search. You need to know the dianeter of the bore hole and find if a pipe was already inserted as well casing. The pipe diameter is needed for sizing the solar pump to be used. Also you need to require those who drilled the well to test the source spring what the capacity of the water well may be in gallons per minute. You’ll need a battery to store the energy from the solar panels and electrical contactors and circuit breaker for the source power. Finally, the controls are to be wired in a panel with an overload relay and switch. Your voltage rating of the source will depend on the pump motor rating.
