solar electrical panel
Can someone help about a “solar energy” question, actually it’s more in the area of electrical hook up?
In order for my house to be run by solar energy, do I need to make a seperate electrical panel and make new outlet connections going to the new curcuit box so that the converter pushes electricity to it from the solar panels? Or can I use the main public electrical panel unhooking the electricity coming to the box from the energy company? Can anyone help?
Well…what I’m installing are 21-28 solar panels all together pushing at about 1,200 watts of power along with 7-15 deep cycle batteries with a modified sine inverter that pushes 8,000 watts of electricity continuisly. So wether I have enough or not I will still do the job on my own.
Oh and another thing, it is not costing me 40 grand for the items

panels charge the batteries
the inverter takes the 12-48 volts from the batteries and changes it to house current ( 120 v 60h here in the US )
Feed from the public utility is taken out of the house circuit breaker panel and taken to a transfer switch.
the output from the inverter is also taken to the transfer switch
transfer switch is then wired to the house panel
you can then switch back and forth from street power to panel power.
Alternatively, and especially if you have 220 v appliances ( heating/AC, hot water heaters )
take the wires that run the outlets in the house ( 110v circuits) to a separate circuit breaker panel and wire the inverter to feed it…….that way the panels run the low draw items and street power the big draw big voltage stuff……
and you can also wire a battery charger to the street power panel so you can top up the batteries on a cloudy day….BUT CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN as to how you do that or you will have a Big Blue Flash ( Very Bad ) and a lot of melted plastic and copper!
