Solar powered tank heaters are a perfect solution for the challenges facing us today. We are living in a time where our reliance on cheap oil to power our lives has caused us to harm our environment close to the point of irreperable damage.

A Perfect Opportunity for Solar Powered Tank Heaters
With ever increasing energy bill don’t you want to create a way for you and your family to save some money and do something good for the environment? We should be teaching our children that there are alternatives to fossil fuels that actually save our precious environment. Solar powered tank heaters work by using the sun’s rays to heat water by converting the sunlight into heat using a black surface of either liquid or solid material. Then water is passed through that black surface (like black plastic pipes) and the water itself heats up.
Sounds Simple?
Well that is because it is! The parts needed to make a solar powered tank heater can be easily obtained from your local hardware store, or if you are savvy enough you can probably get everything you need for free. You already have a water tank in your house so you don’t need to buy a storage tank for your hot water. What you will need are specific plans which tell you exactly what you need, how much piping, caulking, joints, and also how to connect everything.
Is there a catch?
Yes there is. You will save money, but you won’t totally eliminate your hot water bill. This is because although your solar power tank heater will produce enough hot water during the day, and even though your hot water tank is insulated to keep that water warm, eventually the sun will go down. And that is when that little pilot light at the bottom of your tank will kick in and keep that water from getting cold.
It doesn’t take nearly as much gas though to just keep water hot, as it does to make it hot from cold. But since we have already used the sun to do the heating of the water, we now just use a bit of gas or electricity (depends on your water tank) to keep the water warm . We cut our water bill down from $65/month to only $15/month. That is huge! And the best part is that we are saving the environment by doing this, and we don’t have to sacrifice anything like having shorter or colder showers.
