what uses more gas water heating or radiators?
After facing a battery of solar tube experts (companies that want me to buy them) it seems that most of our gas bill goes on running the hot water system, I would have expected it to be the radiator system as its cold here in the uk.
I decided for a few reasons to have an evacuated tube solar system fitted, along with a compatible water tank and gubbings to make our boiler also compatible..I am wondering if its all worth it really as its going to cost nearly 8,000 quid and this tank and boiler is just a 2 years old. The solar tubes will only heat the hot water, not the radiators so that’s my dilemma…do I spend more on hot water or heating the house? If its radiators eating up the gas bill whats the point in spending out?
not sure of typical climate in the uk but generally any type of energy saving system has a high initial cost that will pay for itself eventually but maybe not before you have moved on….here in the us,,water heater energy usage is exaggerated in my opinion..a gas water heater here uses about $300 a year in natural gas,,an electric water heater would be a little more than double that…so thats only $25 per month..if you buy something for thousands of dollars and it saves you 1/2 of the energy,,thats only $150 per year savings..also buy the time some of these “innovations” pay for themselves,they need repaired or replaced due to age,etc..only makes sense in warm,predominately sunny climates in my opinion…hope this helps……dan
